Najjar Abdul-Musawwir, School of Art and Design, discussed work from his Banjo Series during the March 15 closing reception “A Never-Told Story in Art, History and Music” as part of Black History Month events at Hannibal-LaGrange University.

“The Next Generation Learning Technology in Urban Planning and Property Development,” A paper by Michael D. Brazley, Architecture, has been accepted to the 5th Annual International Conference on Urban Planning and Property Development, May 27-28, in Singapore.  

Reid Perkins-Buzo, Radio, Television, and Digital Media, recently contributed a chapter “HD DVD Technologies” to The Routledge Companion to Media Technology and Obsolescence.

Thomas Fagerholm, Theater, recently presented “Building Greener Theater: Reuse + Repurpose + Recycle = Saving Money!” at the Southeastern Theater Conference in Knoxville, Kentucky. The invited presentation focused on how theater organizations can alleviate the ever-rising cost of live performance using non-traditional materials, repurposed items and community resources.

Ruth Hambleton, Agribusiness Economics, will give the keynote address “How Education Elevates” at the “Arkansas Women in Agriculture” conference, March 12-13, in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

University Communications and Marketing earned recognition in two higher education marketing competitions. The EduADAwards gave a gold to the student recruitment package and merit awards for the “Your Home, Your University” integrated marketing campaign and the SIU Foundation annual report. The Collegiate Advertising Awards gave silver to the 2018 "That's a Saluki” television advertisement and  foundation annual report and a bronze to the student recruitment package.

“A Dozen Books to Help Weather the Political Storm,” an essay by John Shaw, Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, was recently published in the History News Network, a popular website for historians and non-fiction readers.

A second edition of “Policy and Program Planning for Older Adults and People with Disabilities: Realities and Visions,” by Elaine Jurkowski, School of Social Work, was recently published. Offering a pioneering approach to encompassing disability and aging policies under one umbrella, the new edition provides current census data, new legislative mandates from the ACA and other policy organizations impacting aging adults and/or disabled populations.

Christie McIntyre, Curriculum and Instruction, is president of the Association of Teacher Educators after the organization's annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia, in February.
