Media Advisory – SIU Carbondale Commencement, Melissa McCarthy
Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover commencement ceremonies Saturday at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Actress Melissa McCarthy, an SIU alumna and Plainfield, Illinois, native who was in the fashion design and merchandising program in the late 1980s, will receive an honorary doctorate of performing arts during the 5:30 p.m. ceremony at the SIU Arena.
Members of the media who are covering the honorary degree presentation to McCarthy are asked to enter and exit through the main entrance on the south side of the arena. Reserved media seating is available in Section 116, Rows 6-8 and seats 11-22.
Members of the media are not allowed on the arena floor while McCarthy is on the stage, and are asked to not leave their seats until the roll call of graduates receiving degrees begins.
