Dental hygiene students are assisting in COVID-19 vaccinations 

Seniors in the dental hygiene program are assisting the Jackson County Health Department as it administers COVID-19 vaccinations at the Banterra Center.


Saluki Safety update is Feb. 12

A virtual panel presentation updating the university community on COVID-19 safety measures and the spring semester will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12. The third “Saluki Safety” update will be hosted by Chancellor Austin A. Lane and include information on safety protocols, testing, events and other topics. Panelists will also respond to questions submitted by viewers. The presentation will be shown live as well as recorded and posted on the chancellor's YouTube channel


Vaccine information provided by health department 

Distribution and eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine are determined by state and local health departments. The Jackson County Health Department provides additional information for faculty and staff.


SIU’s spring enrollment reinforces positive trends 

Official spring enrollment at SIU Carbondale reflects solid retention of students as well as an increase in the number of new students compared to previous years.


Deadline for federally mandated training for maintaining a discrimination-free campus is Feb. 28 

All faculty and staff are reminded to complete a federally mandated training session Preventing Harassment and Discrimination for Higher Education. Faculty, staff, graduate assistants, student employees, extra help employees and volunteers should complete the training by accessing the EVERFI link by Feb. 28.  Please check your email for the message sent Dec. 4 from the university.


Possible update to your email client required in 2021 

In an ongoing effort to combat cybercrime, the Office of Information Technology is implementing another “best practice” recommended by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The current effort is focused on ensuring that everyone in the SIU community uses a trusted and supported email client (the mechanism that you use to access email).


SIU Alumni Association launches new smartphone app 

Faculty and staff can download a new app developed by the SIU Alumni Association, available on both iOS and Android devices that keep them, and alumni, informed and connected to the university.


‘My Stay At Home Diary!’ gives children a voice during pandemic 

As part of its response to helping children and families during the COVID-19 pandemic, WSIU and its affiliated public media stations are the first to offer “My Stay At Home Diary!,” a program featuring children from throughout the world showing their lives, joys and concerns during the pandemic. The free series is available in digital format at watch.wsiu.org for viewers in the region and across the nation.
