As we wrap up 2019 and the fall semester, I thank all of our faculty and staff for your hard work moving SIU Carbondale forward. We are gaining momentum in every way due to your commitment to the university, its students, and our community. Have a wonderful holiday season. SIU’s Justin McDaniel helps battle the opioid crisis through research and action 

As the opioid crisis rages across the country, Justin McDaniel, Public Health and Recreation Professions, and a colleague from the University of Alabama have received a $3.2 million grant to take action in one of the areas hardest hit by the problem.


Archaeology professor Shimada set to receive prestigious “Sacred Treasure” award in Japan 

Izumi Shimada, a distinguished professor in the anthropology department, received a discreet, subject-less email at the start of the school year and immediately thought something was wrong with his future research plans.


Help SIU save energy costs over winter break 

In an effort to control campus energy costs, Plant and Service Operations asks employees to help conserve energy by following some simple suggestions before leaving campus for the holiday break:


Reminder of planned internet outage on campus Dec. 27 

On Dec. 27, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) has scheduled a 20-hour window for major network maintenance. Network access will be sporadic throughout the day, with some areas affected longer than others.
