Planned internet outage on campus set for Dec. 27
On December 27, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) has scheduled a 20-hour window for major network maintenance. Network access will be sporadic throughout the day, with some areas affected longer than others.
Anyone planning to work during the winter break should plan accordingly.
Maintenance will occur in three phases:
- Phase one begins at 8 a.m. There will be no internet access on campus during phase one.
- Phase two begins at 10 a.m. This work will affect all data networks on campus. Although each campus network will lose Internet access for approximately 15 minutes, the order in which the outage will occur is random, making access sporadic during phase two.
- Phase three continues throughout the day. Equipment is being removed from multiple locations across campus, causing campus-wide internet outages. As this equipment is decommissioned, areas dependent on the equipment will experience between 15 and 30 minutes of downtime.
Although OIT’s Network Engineering team has allocated this 20-hour window for maintenance, actual downtime may be much less depending on your location and the speed at which this maintenance occurs. This work will strengthen our network reliability and security in the coming year.
