‘Collective effort’ powers SIU Flying Salukis to 14th straight regional title

The Flying Salukis will compete for a 10th national title in May after capturing a 14th straight National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Region VIII title.


Former SIU football standout to serve as grand marshal for homecoming parade

Former Saluki football and current NFL standout Jeremy Chinn, who is among the 2025 Saluki Hall of Fame class, will serve as grand marshal for Saluki Spooktacular Homecoming parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.


Music festival, SIU Homecoming traffic information 

As SIU and the City of Carbondale get ready to celebrate homecoming, the city is providing traffic detour and closed street information for the Carbondale Halloween Homecoming Music Street Festival on Friday, Oct. 24, and the SIU Homecoming parade on Saturday, Oct. 25.


Paul Simon Institute to host Metro East Youth Leadership Weekend

SIU Carbondale’s Paul Simon Public Policy Institute will host 35 to 40 students in eighth through 12th grade for the 20th Metro East Youth Leadership Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25-26, on campus and at the Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center.


Celebration of life for Richard ‘Itchy’ Jones is Saturday 

The SIU Carbondale Athletics Department will hold a celebration of life service for legendary coach Richard “Itchy” Jones at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Itchy Jones Stadium. In the event of inclement weather, the memorial service will be moved to the Charles Helleny Pavilion inside Banterra Center. In his 21 years at his alma mater, Jones compiled a 738-345-5 record, including 10 NCAA tournament appearances and three trips to the NCAA College World Series.  


Great Glass Pumpkin Patch sale is Saturday

The talents of students in SIU Carbondale’s glass program will be on display with the annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, Oct. 25, on the lawn in front of the breezeway between Pulliam Hall and the Wham Education Building.


SIU Bookstore faculty, staff appreciation day is Oct. 29 

The SIU Bookstore, located in the Student Center, is hosting a Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day on Wednesday, Oct. 29. In addition to the usual employee discount, a couple of special promotions will be available to SIU faculty and staff that day.


Busy Saluki sports for Homecoming Week 

Break out the maroon gear for SIU Homecoming Week. The nationally ranked Saluki football hosts Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in Saluki Stadium. The women’s soccer team closes out its home schedule at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex against Indiana State at 5 p.m. today, Oct. 23. The Saluki women’s volleyball team faces Drake in Davies Gym at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30. The Saluki men’s baseball team hosts Central Methodist University in its final fall game at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Itchy Jones Stadium. The Saluki women’s basketball team opens its season at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, with an exhibition against McKendree at Banterra Center. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.
