SIU Carbondale welcomes 42 new tenure-track faculty this fall 

SIU Carbondale is welcoming 42 new tenure-track faculty to campus for the 2025-2026 school year. 


Salary increase guidelines 

On Sept. 18, the SIU Board of Trustees approved a salary increase plan for fiscal year 2026. The plan includes increases as identified through the recent Compensation 2030 study conducted by CBIZ consulting firm. Human Resources will hold open forums this week to provide employees with an overview of the new compensation structure that will be rolled out as result of the Compensation 2030 study.


800+ area high school students to attend SIU Day to see academics in action 

More than 800 students from 19 area high schools will meet faculty and staff to get a closer look at resources and academic programs on campus during SIU Day from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24. 


Four faculty members receive 2025 SIU System Collaboration Award  

Four faculty members were awarded the Southern Illinois University System’s 2025 Faculty Collaboration Award at the SIU Board of Trustees meeting on Sept. 18 for their academic innovation and partnerships. The recipients are Chao Lu, associate professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering at SIU Carbondale, and Sinan Onal, professor and chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering at SIU Edwardsville, and Jyotsna Kapur, professor of cinema and media studies and former director of the University Honors Program at SIU Carbondale, and Eric Ruckh, associate professor of history and director of the John Martinson Honors Program at SIUE. 


Virtual appointments available for faculty, staff regalia sale on Oct. 14 

Events and Outreach is announcing a virtual faculty and staff regalia sale through Herff Jones, a national provider of custom regalia. Graduate students wishing to purchase regalia rather than rent are also welcome. 


Dr. Jerry Kruse to retire as SIU School of Medicine dean and provost in 2026

Jerry Kruse, MD, MSPH, dean and provost of SIU School of Medicine and CEO of SIU Medicine, announced on Sept. 18 that he will conclude his service at the end of his current contract, on or around Aug. 31, 2026.


Classical guitar to be featured in next Yellow Moon Gyroid concert at SIU

The Yellow Moon Gyroid Concert Series kicks off its second season on Friday, Sept. 26, featuring recent SIU Carbondale master’s degree graduate João Vitor. The free, public program, “Classical Guitar,” begins at 4 p.m. in Morris Library’s third-floor rotunda.


Conference to feature international experts in complex trauma

Internationally known experts in the field of complex trauma and dissociation will be featured at SIU Carbondale’s second annual Trauma Training Conference, set for Oct. 10-11. The registration deadline is Oct. 9. The conference is presented by SIU’s Coffman-Crothers Training Program for Trauma and Psychological Health.
