SIU Simmons Law School commencement ceremony is May 9

John Simmons, an Alton attorney, SIU Board of Trustees member and donor, will deliver the keynote address during commencement ceremonies for 71 graduates of the SIU Simmons Law School at 1 p.m. Friday, May 9, in Shryock Auditorium.


Provost’s Scholarships awarded to 19 community college students

Nineteen high achieving community college students from Illinois and Kentucky have received SIU Carbondale Provost’s Scholarships, which cover tuition and mandatory fees for two years.


19-year-old SIU criminal justice grad earns degree, pursues legal career

SIU Simmons Law School student Lily Wise’s youth belies her determination. The 19-year-old will earn her bachelor’s degree in criminology and criminal justice during commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 10, and continue as a second-year law student.


Reminder: Compensation 2030 open forums are Wednesday

SIU System President Dan Mahony’s “Office Hours” podcast episode “Wisdom on Navigating the College Admissions Process” focuses on the college admissions process with guests Wendell Williams, SIU Carbondale vice chancellor for enrollment management, and Andy Benoit, SIU Edwardsville vice chancellor for enrollment management.


Red Cross blood drive is May 8 in Morris Library 

Help meet a critical need for blood as the American Red Cross and Morris Library host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in the library’s first-floor rotunda. To schedule an appointment, visit the Red Cross website. Walk-ins are also welcome. Donors will receive a $20 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice.


Saluki AdLab continues strong showing in district advertising competition

The School of Journalism and Advertising’s Saluki AdLab continues to show its strength with another third-place performance this spring at the National Student Advertising Conference District 6 competition in South Bend, Indiana.

New Arts Jazztet album release is Friday 

The New Arts Jazztet is taking the stage at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, for the opening night of the Friday Night Block Party Series at Brews Brothers Taproom, 1105 Chestnut St., Murphysboro. The event is also the album release for bassist Phil Brown’s fifth album, “Rule of Three,” which features the group and was released nationally in April. 


Reminder: SIU Today begins summer schedule May 15 

After the spring semester ends on Saturday, May 10, SIU Today will begin its summer schedule and come out once a week, each Thursday except for holidays, beginning May 15. Submission deadlines will remain the same. Tomorrow (May 6) is the deadline for the Thursday, May 8, edition.
