Exhibition celebrates the rise of women’s sports over five decades

An exhibition in Morris Library through June is celebrating the rise of women’s sports over the last 50 years and honoring trailblazing women boxers and the SIU Women’s Rugby Club. A reception, with a Q&A, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, May 2, in the library’s rotunda.


Saluki Ball shines in Carbondale, bridges the gap for SIU students

The third annual Saluki Ball on April 26 packed the SIU Carbondale Student Center ballrooms with a sold-out crowd with nearly 500 alumni, friends, students and supporters joining Chancellor Austin Lane, SIU System President Dan Mahony, the SIU Foundation and others. Event proceeds support the university’s Bridge the Gap Scholarship Fund, which helps students cover outstanding bursar bills.


SIU Carbondale student elected to national honors council 

Sophomore Natalie Eves, an aspiring forensic anthropologist at SIU Carbondale, has been chosen to serve on the National Collegiate Honors Council Board of Directors, a spot reserved for only five students in the country. 


Celebrate the area’s newest enterprises during SIU’s Small Business Spotlight

SIU Carbondale will recognize National Small Business Week by celebrating the accomplishments of some of the area’s newest entrepreneurs at the annual Small Business Spotlight event hosted by the Illinois Small Business Development Center on Thursday, May 1, at the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center.


Encourage spring semester graduates to complete survey 

The Career Development Center asks faculty and staff to remind students of a survey for undergraduate and graduate students who are planning to graduate in May.


SIU employees eligible for 50% Saluki football season ticket discount

SIU Athletics is offering a 50% discount on 2025 Saluki football season tickets to all SIU Carbondale employees. With an added scholarship fund donation, employees can also receive premium parking and club access. The seating discount includes all areas minus chairback seats.


SIU students to showcase working replica of ancient bucket-chain machine 

Ancient Romans and Greeks used many machines to build their societies. Students and faculty in SIU’s ancient practices program will demonstrate a working replica of one of these machines – a chain-type contraption that lifted buckets of water from a well or other water source – at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at the southwest corner of the Engineering Building courtyard.


Reminder: Faculty, staff sought for May 10 commencement volunteers

Volunteer opportunities remain available for faculty, staff and community members who would like to assist graduating Salukis as they celebrate their accomplishments during SIU Carbondale’s commencement exercises at Banterra Center on May 10.


Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter is available 

The latest Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter for April 2025 is available. The Office of Executive Inspector General publishes the newsletter to allow state employees to stay informed of current issues relating to ethics. The SIU System Ethics Office website is siusystem.edu/ethics


SIU Today begins summer schedule May 15 

After the spring semester ends on Saturday, May 10, SIU Today will begin its summer schedule and come out once a week, each Thursday except for holidays, beginning May 15. Submission deadlines will remain the same. May 6 is the deadline for the May 8 edition.
