SIU Simmons Law School to host Illinois Supreme Court arguments
The SIU Simmons Law School will host the Illinois Supreme Court as justices hear oral arguments in two cases on March 18 in the Student Center Ballrooms. Closed circuit viewing will be available in the Student Center Auditorium and via livestream. A limited number of seats are available for the public. Those wishing to attend should RSVP for a reserved seat by March 12.
SIU researcher secures $200K grant to improve brain-inspired computing technology
Chao Lu, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, is exploring innovative ways to accelerate neuromorphic computing, drawing inspiration from the human brain's structure and function. He received a two-year, $200,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to support advancements in memristor-crossbar-array (MCA).
Promotion, tenure workshops scheduled for next week
The Office of the Associate Provost for Academic Administration will host a series of promotion and tenure workshops Wednesday and Thursday, March 26-27.
Documentary filmmaker LeAnn Erickson to visit SIU
Independent filmmaker LeAnn Erickson will screen and discuss two of her movies on Thursday, March 6, in Morris Library. The free, public event is from 3-5 p.m. in John C. Guyon Auditorium.
Visit SIU’s Forced Air Compost Facility on Thursday for tours, award presentation
SIU Carbondale’s Forced Air Compost Facility will receive the We Compost Award from the Illinois Food Scrap and Composting Coalition during a free, public event on Thursday, March 6, featuring tours of the facility and a brief presentation.
Veo scooters now available for faculty, staff and students
Veo electric scooters have returned to Carbondale and SIU. Veo operates a fleet of 450 Astro standing scooters and Cosmo seated scooters. Visit the City of Carbondale website for more information and helpful operating tips.
Reminder: SIU System ADEI Lifetime Achievement Award nominations due March 14
Nominations are being accepted for the Dr. Wesley G. Robinson-McNeese ADEI Lifetime Achievement Award. The nomination deadline is March 14.
Reminder: A/P performance evaluations due March 31
University policy requires that all administrative/professional staff have their work evaluated on an annual basis between Jan. 1 and March 31.
Reminder: Virtual appointments available for faculty, staff regalia sale on March 20
Events and Outreach is announcing a virtual faculty and staff regalia sale through Herff Jones, a national provider of custom regalia. Graduate students wishing to purchase regalia rather than rent are also welcome.
SIU Today spring break schedule
SIU Today will also take a spring break next week. The last issue before spring break is Thursday, March 6. The submission deadline remains the same: Tuesday, March 4. SIU Today will then resume on March 17.
