SIU ensembles aim to make noise at ‘pinnacle in the trumpet world’  

Two SIU Carbondale School of Music trumpet ensembles are working to hit their stride and make history along the way. They will compete March 13-16 at the National Trumpet Competition, marking the first time in school history an SIU ensemble has reached the NTC.


Record-breaking Saluki Takeover Tour builds connections in Florida 

The Saluki Takeover Tour Florida has grown in each of its last three years as Chancellor Austin Lane and other university leaders met with donors, high school administrators and alumni during the tour Feb. 11-13. 


SIU leaders monitoring the weather 

With the possibility of snow this week, SIU leaders continue to monitor the forecast. In the meantime, faculty and staff should take two important steps to prepare: review the campus policy and ensure that the university has your current cellphone number if you want to receive emergency text alerts. 


SIU community invited to REC Day Feb. 20

Recreational Sports and Services welcomes faculty, staff and students to enjoy a variety of special activities, games and more during REC Day on Thursday, Feb. 20.


Research repository now available through Morris Library 

A nonprofit, multidisciplinary, open access repository offering data curation and publishing services is available to SIU Carbondale-affiliated researchers through Morris Library.


Budget development training sessions scheduled

Susan Simmers, vice chancellor for administration and finance, is inviting staff and faculty who will be participating in the budget process for fiscal year 2026 to upcoming training sessions. The sessions are Feb. 24-27.


Middle, high school students to visit for inaugural Woodwind Day  

More than 100 middle school and high school students from throughout the region will learn the nuances of playing woodwind instruments at the inaugural Woodwind Day, hosted by SIU Carbondale’s School of Music on Wednesday, Feb. 19. 


SIU System ADEI Lifetime Achievement Award nominations accepted 

Nominations are being accepted for the Dr. Wesley G. Robinson-McNeese ADEI Lifetime Achievement Award. The nomination deadline is March 14.


SIU President Mahony hosts ‘Office Hours’ podcast

SIU System President Dan Mahony kicks off his inaugural “Office Hours with SIU System President Dan Mahony” with SIU Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane and SIUE Chancellor James T. Minor talking about their career paths and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.


Reminder: Sturgis Public Service Award nomination deadline is this week 

Nominations for the Lindell W. Sturgis Memorial Public Service Award must be received by Friday, Feb. 21. The award honors an SIU Carbondale employee for their community work away from campus.
