Everyone invited to enjoy SIU’s Haunted Hollow

A bewitchingly entertaining day awaits visitors at the Haunted Hollow, SIU Carbondale’s family friendly Halloween festival at Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center. Everyone is welcome to join the fun from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Touch of Nature.

Salukis Care Week, fall break promote good mental health, help students succeed 

Helping to enhance the emotional wellness of students so they can thrive and succeed is the goal of SIU Carbondale’s Salukis Care Day on Thursday, Oct. 17, which will be a part of a week of activities leading up to fall break, a three-day weekend for students. Students will enjoy a mental health day on Friday, Oct. 18, though the university will remain open.

Sustainability plans open house, leadership and service week and more

SIU Carbondale’s Sustainability Office is sponsoring an open house beginning today (Oct. 14), and everyone is invited to tour the new area and bring their ideas for programming and initiatives to make campus even more green and sustainable.

SIU String Orchestra performs Tuesday

The orchestral talents of SIU Carbondale students and faculty return on Tuesday, Oct. 15, when the SIU String Orchestra performs at 7 p.m. in Shryock Auditorium.

Reminder: Mandatory cybersecurity training begins today

The university’s mandatory cybersecurity training for faculty and staff will be available, starting today, Oct. 14. The training notice includes information on exemption eligibility and accessibility options. The deadline to complete the training is Nov. 8.

SIU to observe Earth Science Week with series of free talks

Learn more about our planet and the dynamic forces shaping life here during Earth Science Week, today, Oct. 14, through Saturday, Oct. 19. Activities will include a series of free, public brown bag lunch presentations throughout the week aimed at promoting an understanding of earth sciences and sustainability.

Reminder: Honorary degree/service award nomination deadline is Wednesday

The university is now accepting nominations for honorary degrees and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2025 commencement ceremonies. The nomination deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 16. Nominations are also open to the SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.

Mike Norrington: A true Big Dawg  

From the time he came to SIU Carbondale as a freshman in 1965, to the Saluki Patrol and then a full-time officer with the Department of Public Safety until 1980, Mike Norrington has been a Saluki. He is now one of the first members of the Big Dawg Leadership Society.
