SIU student researcher tracks invasive rodent as part of study on semiaquatic mammals
With the assistance of SIU Carbondale faculty members Guillame Bastille-Rousseau and Charlotte Narr, Derek Whipley, a graduate student in zoology, is studying the invasive rodent nutria and its impact on other semiaquatic mammals and the region's wetland habitat.
Daniel, Watson named Provost Faculty Fellows
Joshua Daniel, associate professor of English and coordinator of the Writing Studies program, and Cherie Watson, a professor of practice in Library Affairs, have been appointed as Provost Faculty Fellows for the 2024-25 academic year.

Photojournalism exhibition on Saturday features students’ works, panel discussion
The works of SIU Carbondale photojournalism students will be highlighted Saturday, Aug. 24, in the Morris Library rotunda. The free, public discussion, “Views of Cobden and Alto Pass from the 2024 SIU Photojournalism Weekend Workshop,” is from 2 to 4 p.m.
Faculty and staff can purchase Block20 meal plan for reduced price
SIU’s Culinary and Nutrition Services, commonly known as “Dining,” is offering faculty and staff the opportunity to purchase the Block20 Plan at a significant cost savings, giving them 20 meal swipes at Trueblood and Lentz Dining for $190.
Saluki FanFest is tonight
Saluki fans are encouraged to attend the 13th annual Saluki FanFest from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, Aug. 22, at Saluki Stadium. The free event for the entire family gives fans the opportunity to interact with members of the 2024 Saluki football team.

There will be a lot of maroon in Du Quoin on Friday, Aug. 23, as SIU Carbondale helps open the Du Quoin State Fair with the Twilight Parade. The parade starts at 6 p.m. inside the fairgrounds.

Brian Wilson has deep roots at SIU Carbondale, and his decision to endow a $100,000 scholarship fund in the university’s College of Business and Analytics only strengthens that connection.

SIU’s Fraternity and Sorority Life will celebrate the beginning of a new school year with a Greek Barbecue, and faculty and staff are invited to join the student Greek organizations for an enjoyable evening. The event is on the Davies Lawn from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 3.
Saluki soccer in action
