As solar storms erupt, SIU researchers continue to study the sun

Scientists are predicting the possibility of solar storms of varying intensity during the next two weeks as faculty and student researchers at SIU Carbondale continue studying the sun with two NASA-funded research projects.


New SIU ID cards postponed

As a result of supply chain issues, the SIU ID Card Office is postponing the issuance of new SIU identification cards until the middle of July. Current ID cards for faculty, staff and students will continue to work and be valid. The proposed date to begin the production of new ID cards is July 22. New students will receive information via their SIU email once the new system is in place. For updates, visit the ID Card Office website. Direct questions to scenter@siu.edu.


Bryson Scholars Program launches students toward success

When classes start this fall, dozens of incoming students will have already earned 8 credit hours and gotten a head start on their college careers, thanks to their participation in the Dr. Seymour Bryson Future Scholars Program this summer.


Open forums set for associate provost for student success  

Two candidates for associate provost for student success at SIU Carbondale will meet with faculty, staff and students during open forums on campus, beginning Tuesday, July 9.


New commander to lead SIU Air Force ROTC

Lt. Col. Chay M. Derbigny took over command of the Air Force ROTC unit at SIU during a ceremony on June 28.


SIU Carbondale political science major to advocate for students on board of trustees

Hannah Connolly has been elected by her peers to serve on the SIU System’s Board of Trustees. Her one-year term began July 1.


Reminder: July 4 fireworks display near Banterra Center  

SIU and the city of Carbondale have announced the annual Independence Day fireworks display on campus will be at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, July 4, near the Banterra Center. Learn more about the show and parking details. Food treats will be available from vendors. In the event of rain on July 4, the fireworks display will be Friday, July 5, also at 9:15 p.m. 


Reminder: Free tickets for July 16 Thrillbillies game

SIU Carbondale is sponsoring “Salukis in Thrillville Night” on Tuesday, July 16, at Mtn Dew Park in Marion as the Thrillville Thrillbillies take on the Cape Catfish at 6 p.m., and SIU employees can go to the game for free.
