Starting from home: SIU boasts six female aviators for 2024 Air Race Classic  

It might not be a complete home court advantage, but three teams of SIU Carbondale School of Aviation female aviators will take off from familiar surroundings for the 47th Air Race Classic (ARC) on Tuesday, June 18.

SIU earns Tree Campus Higher Education honors for 9th time

The university’s commitment to sustainability and green initiatives has once again earned national recognition as SIU Carbondale has been named a Tree Campus Higher Education for the ninth year.

Saluki Pride: Mary Kinsel wins 2024 Teaching Excellence Award for non-tenure track faculty

Mary Kinsel, an associate professor of practice in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Sciences, is the winner of SIU Carbondale’s 2024 Teaching Excellence Award for non-tenure track faculty. She joined SIU in 2005 as director of the Mass Spectrometry Facility and has almost three decades of industrial and academic experience in using mass spectrometry techniques to study and characterize biological samples.

MSP productions ‘Dragons Love Tacos,’ ‘The Prom’ open this week

McLeod Summer Playhouse productions “Dragons Love Tacos” and “The Prom” begin their respective runs this week in the Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theater and McLeod Theater. “The Prom” opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, in McLeod Theater and the next “Dragons Love Tacos” performance is at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15.

The Saluki Triathlon and Duathlon return to SIU on June 22. Anyone can participate, and registration is open.

SIU employees eligible for 50% discount on Saluki football season tickets  

SIU Athletics is offering a 50% discount on 2024 Saluki football season tickets to all SIU Carbondale employees. With an added scholarship fund donation, employees can also receive premium parking and club access. The seating discount includes all areas minus chairback seats.

SIU’s Office of Innovation and Economic Development offers customer service training Monday 

A no-cost workshop offered by the Office of Innovation and Economic Development on Monday, June 17, will provide an opportunity to receive top-quality customer service training.

Faculty, staff reminded of Juneteenth observance on Wednesday 

The university will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, to observe Juneteenth. President Joe Biden in 2021 signed legislation establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Due to the holiday, the SIU Today deadline for submission for the June 20 issue will be 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 17.
