SIU welcomes 29 new tenure-track faculty this fall
The university is welcoming 29 new tenure-track faculty to campus for the fall 2023 semester.
Celebrate our success on Sept. 28
The university’s recent successes, which include an enrollment increase for the first time in nearly a decade, will be celebrated with a campus appreciation cookout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in Old Main Mall in front of Shryock Auditorium.
Reminder: Conversation of Understanding is Tuesday
A Conversation of Understanding on Tuesday, Sept. 19, will look at the recent U.S. Supreme Court affirmative action ruling and its impact on higher education for underserved, racialized ethnic groups. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live, virtual discussion at noon on the SIU System’s YouTube channel.
After wrongful imprisonment in Philippines, SIU prof uses research to advocate for reforms
Raymund Narag, an associate professor in the School of Justice and Public Safety, is using the seven years he spent in a Philippines jail – accused of a crime he didn’t commit, which the court there would eventually clear him of – is using his research to fight for criminal justice reforms.
University Museum seeks submissions showcasing women artists
University Museum is accepting applications for an upcoming exhibition showcasing the creations of women artists in the Southern Illinois region.
Little Grassy Get Down music festival is Oct. 6-8
The Little Grassy Get Down, a premier music festival, returns to the Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center Oct. 6-8 with an all-star lineup and activities for all ages.
SIU Export Controls newsletter is available
The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for September 2023 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes guidelines for collaborating with students and faculty who are in Iran and contact information for the Export Control office.
Reminder: Virtual wellness session is Sept. 20
The SIU System will offer a wellness session for staff only on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The session on successfully navigating career advancement is from noon to 1 p.m. and will be led by David Ziebler, director of organizational and employee development in the SIU School of Medicine’s Center for Human and Organizational Potential.
