SIU Day of Giving supports students, faculty

The seventh annual SIU Day of Giving is Tuesday, March 28, and this year’s focus is on engagement. After raising nearly $10 million in its first six years, the SIU Foundation is asking more people than ever to go to siuday.siu.edu and make a donation – small or large.


SIU’s $5.8M special ed project aims to help keep students with disabilities in Illinois schools

An SIU Carbondale team has launched a 2-year project to help educators around the state find effective ways to help students with disabilities and behavioral concerns stay in school rather than face disciplinary action such as suspension or expulsion, thanks to a $5.841 million Special Education Behavior Assessment Training Project contract with the Illinois State Board of Education.


SIU’s biggest one-day service event, The Big Event, is Saturday

Hundreds of SIU students will donate their time and energy to participate in 16 community service projects during The Big Event: A Saluki Day of Service, on Saturday, March 25.


Remember to wear maroon on Spirit Friday

Spring, along with rain, is here, but don’t forget to wear maroon on Friday like Renada Greer, executive director of the Student Multicultural Resource Center and Trio Programs. The Saluki baseball team opens a three-game homestand, weather permitting, at Itchy Jones Stadium Saurday and Sunday, March 25-26 against the University of Illinois-Chicago, then host UT-Martin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 28. The surging SIU women’s softball team next play at home at 3 p.m. March 28 against Southeast Missouri State. Be sure and tag your favorite photo in Saluki best with #SpiritFriday.


A/P performance evaluations due April 1

University policy requires that all administrative/professional staff have their work evaluated through either a formal or informal process, or a combination thereof. Formal annual performance evaluations are conducted between Jan. 1 and March 31. The rating period to be used for evaluations completed in 2023 is Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2022. Evaluation forms are on the AIS e-forms website. Completed evaluations should be sent to Labor and Employee Relations at LER@siu.edu or mail code 4319 prior to April 1, 2023. ADEI Lifetime Achievement Award deadline is March 31

The nomination deadline for the ADEI Lifetime Achievement Award is March 31. The Southern Illinois University System established the award to recognize staff and faculty members for their efforts in creating, sustaining and expanding antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.


March Madness at work can be beneficial or costly, SIU professor says

As March Madness continues tonight with the Sweet 16, Steve Karau, a professor of management, notes there is potential for costly lost work time and productivity as well as the benefits of positive relationships.


11th Big Muddy New Play Festival highlights student work, March 23-26

A trip down memory lane that features four alternate endings, along with three full-length stage readings from graduate students, highlight the 11th annual Big Muddy New Play Festival, Thursday through Sunday, March 23-26, in SIU’s Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theater.
