SIU researchers seek lost community: the original site of Kaskaskia
Mark Wagner and Ryan Campbell, with the Center for Archaeological Investigations, and Rebecca Ramey, a senior in anthropology, are investigating how much of the historic original Kaskaskia site remains in an effort to unlock its mysteries.
EOC planning ‘active threat exercise’ for campus in April

Peter Li chosen as new Center for International Education director
Peter Li, an attorney with extensive experience in collegiate international programs and services, has been selected as the new director of the Center for International Education.
Weller, Frazier named to lead financial aid, registrar’s offices
Two longtime SIU Carbondale employees have been appointed to fill key administrative positions. Elyse M. Weller has been named director of the Financial Aid Office, where she served as interim director since January 2022. Rachel Frazier was chosen as director of the Office of the Registrar, where she also served as interim director since January 2022. Both appointments became effective Jan. 1.
SIU Aviation receives Boeing donation for student scholarships, other resources
SIU Carbondale’s nationally recognized aviation program recently received a donation from The Boeing Co. to further enhance offerings to its students.
Get ready to wear maroon
In addition to wearing maroon on Spirit Fridays, faculty and staff have several opportunities to don Saluki gear over the next week. On Sunday, Feb. 19, the Saluki men’s basketball team hosts Bradley in a 1 p.m. nationally televised game featuring a Mardi Gras theme and reunion of the 2002 Sweet 16 team. The Salukis also host Northern Iowa on Feb. 22. The women’s basketball team hosts Belmont on Feb. 17, and Murray State at 5 p.m. on Feb. 19. The men’s and women’s indoor track teams host the Don DeNoon Invitational Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18, at the Student Recreation Center. Paul Simon Institute to host Joyce Foundation president to discuss building resilient communities
Ellen Alberding, the president and CEO of the Joyce Foundation, will discuss the role of philanthropy in advancing policy reforms to strengthen communities, confront racial inequities and promote economic mobility during a virtual conversation with the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute next week.
