SIU Carbondale student named Lincoln Academy student laureate
From her volunteer work with the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Illinois, helping with a music program through the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office and her numerous activities on campus, Myla M. Croft exemplifies the 2022 Lincoln Academy of Illinois student laureate for Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Reminder: Open forums for provost candidates
Four candidates for provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at SIU Carbondale will meet with the campus community during a series of open forums today, Nov. 14, through Thursday. Each of the forums begins at noon in the Student Center Auditorium and will be hosted by the search committee and constituency group leaders. During their respective forums, the candidates will discuss their vision for the university, followed by a Q&A from constituency groups.
SIU’s Morris Library to host golden jubilee “Treemonisha” debut in Midwest on Nov. 16
Morris Library will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the university’s 1972 production of the Scott Joplin-era opera “Treemonisha” on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
Environmental, civil justice attorney to present Lesar Lecture on Thursday
Noted environmental and civil justice attorney Jan Schlichtmann will share what he learned from representing families in one of the nation’s earliest environmental and public health lawsuits at the SIU School of Law when he presents the Hiram H. Lesar Distinguished Lecture at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Lesar Law Building Auditorium.
Friends of Morris Library Delta Awards set for Nov. 17
The Trail of Tears Association Illinois chapter's work in preserving and promoting awareness of the Cherokee tribe’s forced removal from North Carolina to Oklahoma through part of Southern Illinois and a book that explores Illinois’ history through paths traveled highlight the 2022 Friends of Morris Library Delta Awards. A presentation and award ceremony will be from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 17 in the library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.
Reminder: Mandated training to maintain discrimination-free campus is due by Tuesday
All faculty, staff, graduate assistants, undergraduate assistants, student employees, extra-help employees and volunteers are reminded that federally mandated training for maintaining a discrimination-free campus is due by Tuesday, Nov. 15.
