SIU Carbondale spring commencement exercises set
Ceremonies for spring 2022 commencement on May 6-7 are set. There is no ticketing for guests, and guest seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. All of the ceremonies, except for the SIU School of Law ceremony in Shryock Auditorium, will take place in Banterra Center. Ceremonies will be compliant with campus and state pandemic safety protocols in place at the time.
Conversation of Understanding to focus on rethinking African American history at SIU
A Conversation of Understanding virtual discussion this week will look at the African American history of Southern Illinois University “to provide a more accurate and complete narrative.” Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live virtual discussion at noon Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Dim the lights! Big Muddy Film Festival returns to familiar surroundings
The 44th annual Big Muddy Film Festival will showcase some of the finest independent films, Feb. 24-27, with showings at The Varsity Theater, 418 S. Illinois Ave., and University Museum on campus.
Illinois CMS director to speak in Paul Simon Institute event
Janel L. Forde, director of the Illinois Department of Central Management Services, will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute for a virtual conversation at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18.
Student orientation leader nominations sought
New Student Programs is seeking nominations from faculty and staff for passionate and energetic students who can tell the university’s amazing story as a 2022 Orientation Leader and build relationships with incoming students while easing the transition to SIU during New Student Orientation. Nomination forms are available.
Free transfer student applications available through Feb. 21
Prospective transfer students can apply to SIU Carbondale for free through Feb. 21 and be eligible for competitive scholarships. Students with 12 or more college credit hours earned after their high school graduation may use the code TRANSFER22 when applying. Students can access the application at admissions.siu.edu/apply.
SIU REC Your Body Indoor Triathlon set for Feb. 27
The 24th annual REC Your Body Indoor Triathlon is coming to campus on Feb. 27, and everyone ages 10 and older is welcome to sign up now to participate.
