SIU doctoral student’s work results in major awards
The work by Amina Naliaka, a doctoral student in environmental resources and policy, to earn two major awards reflects positively on SIU and our graduate programs, according to Justin Schoof, director SIU’s School of Earth Systems and Sustainability and professor of geography and environmental resources.
Veteran marketing and communications executive to join SIU leadership team
Jim Potter, a marketing and communications executive with more than 30 years in the field, will become SIU Carbondale’s new executive director of University Communications and Marketing on Jan. 31 and assume the role of chief marketing officer.
Saluki Pride: Richard Smith plays a pivotal role within Information Technology
Whether in person, virtually or behind the scenes, Richard Smith, information technology manager/administrative coordinator, plays an important role in keeping the university community safe from cyber threats. He led the effort last year to move to Microsoft’s security platform and was instrumental in the campus rollout of multi-factor authentication. COVID vaccine booster clinic is open today
The university will host a COVID vaccine booster clinic from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Jan. 20, at the Student Center Renaissance Room. The Pfizer, Moderna and J&J boosters will be available. To sign up, visit siu.edu/coronavirus. Students and employees who receive a booster shot on campus next week will receive a $5 gift card to Starbucks. Film, discussion to examine challenges migrants face crossing border
A virtual community discussion on immigration and the challenges migrants face coming to the United States is set for Sunday, Jan. 23. In addition to the discussion, hosted by WSIU Broadcasting Service and the Carbondale Public Library, the film, “Missing in Brooks County,” will be broadcast on WSIU/WUSI-TV at 9 p.m. Jan. 31.
