Advocate for first-gen students Lanel Love wins 2021 Staff Excellence Award 

Colleagues and students alike praise Lanel Love, the assistant dean of students and director of the First Saluki Center. She is the 2021 recipient of the Staff Excellence Award for administrative/professionals for her dedication, commitment and concern for students.


Commencement ceremonies start Friday

The university will celebrate the accomplishments of spring 2021 and all 2020 graduates with outdoor ceremonies at Saluki Stadium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.


‘Decal-By-Mail’ program available through May 31

The Department of Public Safety Parking Division’s Decal-By-Mail for eligible faculty and staff for the fiscal year 2022 beginning July 1 will be available through May 31. Applicants must use payroll deduction.


First phase of SIU’s premier multipurpose trail system opens to public

Years of planning. Countless hours of hard work. And now, Touch of Nature Multiuse Trail System may be destined to become one of the Midwest’s premier mountain biking parks. It’s not only the first of its kind in the region, but also the only university-affiliated multiuse trail of this scope in the country.

The Department of Public Safety’s May 2021 issue of the “Saluki Watch Dawg is available. This month’s edition includes information about SIU’s coronavirus website, tips for burglary and theft prevention, a reminder that May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, guidelines for proper seat belt usage and information regarding dating abuse.


New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday 

New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale, at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 9.

This is the last issue of SIU Today for the spring semester. SIU Today will begin its summer schedule May 13 with issues coming out once a week, each Thursday.
