SIU’s Homecoming 2019 celebrates 150 years of Saluki teams, dreams and strength 

You don’t get to be 150 years old without having an impact on the world around you and creating some wonderful memories. As Southern Illinois University Carbondale celebrates its 150th anniversary, the 2019 Homecoming celebration is a time to reflect on the iconic past, celebrate the present and look forward to the future.


Title IX, VAWA and Clery Act course deadline is Monday 

All faculty, staff and student employees are reminded that that the deadline to complete the mandatory “Preventing Discrimination and Sexual Violence: Title IX, VAWA, and Clery Act for Illinois Faculty and Staff” course is Monday. The online, interactive course is required and should be completed within 60 days from the date an email that employees received, which was Aug. 21 for most employees. This is a separate training requirement in addition to the mandatory Sexual Harassment training.


United Airlines, SIU Aviation to commemorate 25th anniversary of first career day flight 

Since 1994, a remarkable aviation relationship between Southern Illinois University Carbondale and United Airlines has strengthened the industry and helped attract outstanding students to a nationally recognized program. 


Tenney lecture to host acclaimed filmmaker Anand Patwardhan on Oct. 21 

Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan will screen and discuss his latest film as part of a University Honors Program on Monday.


Deadline for honorary degree/service award nominations is Wednesday 

The nomination deadline for honorary degree and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2020 commencement ceremonies is Oct. 23. Nominations are also open to the SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.


Attracting students into STEM, health care fields is the focus of a Saturday workshop at SIU 

The university on Saturday will participate via livestream in a statewide program exploring ways to attract more students, particularly underrepresented students, into STEM and health care-related fields in Illinois. 


Information Technology program addresses cybersecurity on campus

As a part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Office of Information Technology is hosting SIU Security Day on Wednesday. This year, the entire campus community is invited to attend.


MFA thesis preview exhibits on display at University Museum 

The works of 12 students from the Master of Fine Arts program in the School of Art and Design are on display through Nov. 2 at University Museum.


Touch of Nature offering three November archery hunts for people with disabilities 

Touch of Nature Environmental Center is hosting three special archery hunts in November for those with disabilities.
