Many of you may be aware that all of the state’s public universities received a letter from the Higher Learning Commission, which accredits us, asking a number of questions related to institutional financial situations in the face of the state budget impasse. The letter requests a report on our current financial situation and an additional report from institutions that are at risk of closure. Since SIU Carbondale is not at risk of closure, we responded to the request for information about current finances. I share our response with you to keep you updated on our situation to date. Thank you for all you do for SIU during these challenging times.

Tuesday Trek set for March 1
The next “Tuesday Trek” is at 12:15 p.m., March 1. The 1.5- to 2.5 mile walk will begin at the Student Services Building Pavilion and go around campus lake. The trek will last about 45 minutes. In the event of inclement weather, the trek will not be held until the following first Tuesday of the next month. If you are unsure whether the trek will be held, please email Brittany Pender or call the Personal Wellness and Fitness Studio at 453-1272. Heart disease is the nation’s No. 1 killer, but exercising for as little as 30 minutes each day can reduce the risk.
