John Reid Perkins-Buzo, associate professor, School of Media Arts, recently spoke at Creative Talent Network eXpo (CTNX) 2023 in a panel, “AI in Animation Education: Friend or Foe?” at the Burbank (California) Airport Marriott Convention Center. CTNX brings together artists, studios and schools once a year to connect, share, celebrate and explore the possibilities of the animation community and industry.
Omid Kamran-Disfani, assistant professor, marketing, School of Management and Marketing, recently provided information on WalletHub.com on personal loans.
Allison Joseph, professor and director of the Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing, presented a poetry reading as part of a Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at Goshen College in Indiana on Jan. 13. Joseph also taught several workshops as a visiting poet-in-residence while there.
“Beyond the Classroom: Influence of a sustainability intervention on university students’ environmental knowledge and behaviors,” an interdisciplinary article by faculty members Dawn Null, associate professor, nutrition; Kristin F. Hurst, assistant professor, and Leslie A. Duram, professor, both in geography and environmental resources, was published in the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences.
Saluki head football coach Nick Hill received the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Grant Teaff Coach of the Year Award at the AFCA convention in Nashville on Jan. 9. The award recognizes a football coach “who exemplifies Christian principles and involvement and support of the FCA.” In 2023, Hill led SIU to its third playoff appearance in the last four seasons and a No. 12 final national ranking. A 2008 SIU grad, Hill has led a resurgence of Saluki football during his eight-year tenure as head coach.
Cheng-Yao Lin, professor of mathematics education, School of Education, recently served as a reviewer on the Fulbright National Screening Committee for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, helping to screen student applicants. He was also invited to participate in the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program, through which institutions host a scholar from outside of the U.S. in a comprehensive exchange partnership.
Zvi Rosen, assistant professor, SIU School of Law, recently wrote an analysis on a federal appeals court ruling involving the U.S. Copyright Office and Valancourt Books, "Copyright Ruling a Victory for Innovation in Publishing Sector" for Law360 (subscription required).
