Jan Thompson, director, School of Journalism and Advertising, has a nine-episode podcast debuting on iHeart Media in time for the July 4 holiday. “Ben Steele, American” is her fifth project working with actor Alec Baldwin. Thompson wrote, edited and co-produced the series with Baldwin.

Katherine Martin, associate professor, School of Languages and Linguistics, will be lecturing at a weeklong thematic summer school organized by the Research Network in Second Language Acquisition, a French scientific interest group, in Figeac, France. She will be teaching four classes on the topic of writing systems and how they influence literacy development.

John Shaw, Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, wrote a book review on “Davos Men: How the Billionaires Devoured the World” by Peter S. Goodman for The Washington Diplomat. Goodman, a New York Times global economic correspondent, participated in a virtual conversation hosted by the institute in May.

Cindy Buys, professor and director of international law programs, School of Law, will discuss “Immigration Law: Education, Advocacy and Action” during a virtual and in-person presentation at 7 p.m., Tuesday June 21, at the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship, 105 N. Parrish Lane, Carbondale. The Zoom link will be available on the church’s website.

For her work with the U.S. Department of State sending former World War II POWs back to Japan for reconciliation, Jan Thompson, director, School of Journalism and Advertising, attended an invitation breakfast in commemoration of Memorial Day at the White House hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden on May 30.
