Allison Joseph, MFA creative writing director, was named to the 2020 Illinois Poet Laureate Search Committee by Gov. JB Pritzker. The committee is comprised of poets, writers, and academics from across Illinois and will review nominations and recommend an Illinois resident to become the next state poet laureate. The position has been vacant since late 2017.

“The Slow Cancellation of the Future,” a short essay and six works of digital art by Robert Spahr, Cinema and Photography, will be published in August by GASATHJ (Generative Art Science and Technology Hard Journal). Automated computer code appropriates raw digital material from the Internet, which is then transformed into the work. This art reflects the experience of uncertainty and the sense of there being no time or place any more during a global pandemic.

Omid Kamran Disfani, School of Management and Marketing, recently provided information on WalletHub.com about using gasoline credit cards.

“Language Development During Interstellar Travel” a paper co-written by Jeffrey Punske, Linguistics, was featured in Acta Futura in April and profiled in “Do You Speak ‘Earth English?’ Why Interplanetary Immigrants Of The Future Will Struggle To Chat” in Forbes in July 2020.

Segun Ojewuyi, Theater, and Joseph Brown, Africana Studies, participated in the virtual The Wole Soyinka Advocacy Session, July 12-13, via Zoom.
