Jessica Cataldo, Health Care Management, was one of four panelists in a virtual discussion “Leading During COVID19: Surprises, Challenges and Lessons Learned” earlier this month for the Mid-America Healthcare Executives Forum. Member healthcare leaders from throughout the region discussed their experiences in leading their teams through the challenges of the pandemic.

SIU System President Dan Mahony is the 2020 recipient of the Charles Whitcomb Service Award given by the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association, which acknowledges individuals who foster diversity and inclusion within the intercollegiate athletics community.

“Worried about your children? Parent-rater bias on children’s internalizing behaviors” a paper presented by Emily Pali, a psychology graduate student and co-authored by Matthew Jamnik, a psychology graduate student and Lisabeth DiLalla, a professor in Family and Community Medicine and psychology, received first place for graduate student paper presentations at the online Sigma Xi National Research Honor Society Virtual Student Scholars competition in May.

Lisa Brooten, Radio, Television, and Digital Media, was recently selected for an ASEAN-sponsored (Association for Southeast Asian Nations) Fulbright research grant. In partnership with local academic host institutions, Brooten will do research for six months in three countries — Myanmar Thailand and the Philippines. The research will allow Brooten to complete her next book, a comparative case study of media reform efforts in these three countries.
