William H. Freivogel, School of Journalism, is a 2019 Scripps Howard Awards finalist for Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, March 3 and receive the award April 16 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

José R. Ruiz, Aviation Management and Flight, has been appointed a national expert adviser for aviation and engineering students from U.S. universities who participate in the Airport Cooperative Research Program, National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Design Competition. The competition for students reviews innovative approaches that address runway safety issues.

Reid Perkins-Buzo, Radio, Television, and Digital Media, recently contributed an HD DVD technology essay to the book “The Routledge Companion to Media Technology and Obsolescence,” which received the Best Edited Collection Award by the Society for Cinema and Media Studies for 2019. The award will be presented at the 2020 SCMS conference in April.

Debra Pender, Counseling, Qualitative Methods, and Special Education, along with SIU alumna Rebecca Pender Baum, Murray State University, presented at the 2020 International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors World Conference in New Orleans. One of their presentations focused on generational transmission of trauma in family systems, including individual trauma as well as social oppression of marginalized groups.

“Implementation of Artificial Intelligence in Fashion: Are Consumers Ready?”  a research article by Seung-Hee Lee, Yuli Liang and Jane Workman, Fashion Design and Merchandising, was recently published in the Clothing and Textiles Research Journal.
