Rolando Gonzalez-Torres, School of Architecture, has an abstract titled, “Topos & Khora, Territoriality as a Cultural Creation of Human Beings,” accepted for presentation at the International Conference Arquitectonics Network: Mind, Land and Society, June 1-3, 2016, at the College of Architects of Catalonia and in the Barcelona School of Architecture in Spain. 

Several members of the SIU School of Law participated in the 110th annual Association of American Law Schools meeting, Jan. 6-10, in New York City. Faculty members Cheryl L. Anderson, Jennifer A Brobst, Steven J. Macias, George Mocsary, and Angela K. Upchurch, presented on a variety of topics.

A presentation by Sandy Collins and Marcea Walter, Health Care Management; Richard McKinnies, Radiologic Sciences; Jennifer Sherry, Dental Hygiene, and Anthony Fleege, Mortuary Science and Funeral Services, has been accepted by the Association for University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) for the organization’s annual conference, June 22-24, in Kansas City, Mo. The presentation is “Using Student Surveys to Develop an Understanding of Population Health Issues in HPV Education.” 

“Cowboy Christmas,” a feature-length documentary by H.D. Motyl, Radio, Television, & Digital Media, was designated one of the top 10 Editor’s Choice videos of 2015 by “Booklist Online,” from the American Library Association. A DVD of this award-winning film about professional rodeo cowboys is available at Morris Library; in March, it will begin streaming on iTunes.

Bob Baer, Physics, will participate in a NASA Panel Review meeting this month in Dallas.   The meeting is for the 27 organizations recently selected by NASA to enter into negotiations for cooperative agreements as NASA Science Education Partners.  Of the 27 organizations, three were selected to support science education associated with the upcoming 2017 total solar eclipse over North America.  Baer is a member of one of these three groups, the Citizen CATE (Continental America Telescopic Eclipse) Experiment, which will use a fleet of telescopes across the country to observe the eclipse.  At SIU, Baer is also co-chair of the eclipse planning committee.

Lisa Caringer, Disability Support Services, edited an online guide entitled “Equitable Access for Deaf or Hard of Hearing Students: Understanding Legal Responsibilities for Institutions.”  The guide, intended for disability service professionals, reviews recent case law and provides recommended practice for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The guide is published by Pepnet 2, a Research-to-Practice Division program under the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education.
