Nwamaka Anaza, Department of Marketing, is co-author of a paper that will be recognized in November at the Society for Marketing Advances annual conference as the USCA Best Paper in the Personal Selling and Sales Management Track. The paper, co-authored with Edward Nowlin of Kansas State University, looks at the “absence of a healthy and meaningful dialogue” of why salespeople withhold and hoard knowledge, even with the negative ramifications that such actions have for companies.

Patricia Saleeby, School of Social Work, presented her model on capability and disability, “Evidence on the Capability Approach: A Capability Perspective on Disability,” to the European Health Management Association in Breda, Netherlands in June. Saleeby’s model has been used to inform a national study on employment capability in the Netherlands.

Sandra K Collins, program director, Health Care Management, has been invited to moderate a panel “Diversity in Healthcare Management - Value-Added Business Sense” at the Mid America Health Care Executives Forum (MAHCEF) on Oct. 20.

“Cowboy Christmas,” a feature-length documentary by H.D. Motyl, Radio, Television & Digital Media, recently earned the “Best Action Sports Film Award” from the 2015 Colorado International Film Festival and Awards. The film focuses on the lives of rodeo cowboys. The documentary was recently released on the educational video market.

Marie Bukowski, director, School of Art and Design, recently had images of her art work included in the summer 2015 volume of Studio Visit, Volume 29, an international publication. The competitive volume’s juror is Michael Lash, independent curator and former director of Public Arts for the City of Chicago.

José R. Ruiz, Aviation Management and Flight, is the 2015 recipient of the V.L. Laursen Award by the University Aviation Association. The award honors an aviation educator who has made significant contributions to the UAA and aerospace education. Ruiz will receive the award at the UAA fall conference banquet in October in Salt Lake City.

Delio Calzolari, Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, has been selected to participate in the 2015-2016 Delta Leadership Institute Executive Academy.  The academy is a series of training and leadership sessions during the next year to provide up-and-coming leaders with information they need to make a difference in the Mississippi Delta region. Session topics include transportation and infrastructure, public health and education, small business and entrepreneurship, culture and tourism as economic development, and public policy and governance.

School of Law Dean Cynthia Fountaine will travel to France later this fall as one of 12 U.S. higher education administrators chosen to participate in the Fulbright International Education Administrators (IEA) program. The Fulbright IEA France program is designed to help U.S. senior-level university administrators -- deans, provosts, vice presidents, and presidents -- create connections with the societal, cultural and higher education systems in France.

Two pieces of glass work by Jiyong Lee, School of Art and Design, will be part of a “Korea Now! Craft, Fashion and Graphic Design in Korea” exhibition at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, France, Sept. 19 through Jan. 3. The event will bring together more than 700 works of art by 150 artists, artisans, designers, fashion designers and graphic designers in almost all of the museum’s temporary exhibition spaces.

Jonathan Bean, professor, History, was appointed recently to a third term on the U.S. Civil Rights Commission’s Illinois State Advisory Committee. The committee reports to the U.S. Civil Rights Commission on issues ranging from “hate crimes” to immigration reform. Bean is one of 18 civil rights experts serving on the state advisory committee and was the only one through his first two terms from Southern Illinois. Bean’s two-year term runs to August 2017. Cindy Buys, a professor in the SIU School of Law, is a new advisory committee member.

Xuhong Shang, professor, School of Art and Design, presented “Sleep Walker – Xuhong Shang Solo Exhibition,” at the Shanghai Hongqiao Contemporary Art Museum, Shanghai, China, in July. The invitation solo exhibition included paintings, mixed media projects, digital works and a video installation. Shang also delivered an artist lecture during the 10-day exhibit.
