SIU prof seeks info, artifacts about university’s history with women’s college sports

Bobbi Knapp, an associate professor of sports studies, is gathering information and photos to chronicle the university's groundbreaking role in women’s college athletics.

Baltimore bridge collapse will impact supply chain, economy 

Gregory D. DeYong, associate professor of operations management, says the deadly collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday morning “will likely have long-term consequences for the local, regional, and at least in the short-term, national economy.”


Provost Faculty Fellow application deadline extended

The deadline for tenured SIU Carbondale faculty to participate in the Provost Faculty Fellow program for the fall 2024 semester with possible renewal in spring 2025 has been extended to April 15.


Saluki Con/Eclipse Con packed with fun for all ages April 6-7

Saluki Con, a two-day comic con style event filled with guest stars, gaming, virtual reality, workshops, contests and much more, returns to campus April 6-7. Saluki Con 2024 is also the second Eclipse Con as it’s part of SIU’s four-day Crossroads Eclipse Festival, April 5-8. Tickets are on sale now.

Suzanne Bishop, accounting specialist with Facilities and Energy Management, shows her Saluki spirit with sequins. The Saluki softball team hosts the University of Northern Iowa for a three-game series, Friday-Sunday, March 29-31, at Charlotte West Stadium. The SIU baseball team hosts Lindenwood at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Itchy Jones Stadium. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com. 


Eric Massey named to lead procurement services

Eric Dean Massey has been named director of SIU Carbondale’s Procurement Services. His appointment became effective March 18.


Get tickets now for TEDxSIUC on March 30

TEDxSIUC, an independently organized event featuring live TED talks, is coming to the SIU Student Center from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 30. Tickets are now available for purchase online.


SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available  

The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for March 2024 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes guidelines for the university’s interactions with Iran, along with a list of research equipment and items that require notice to the Export Controls office. 


No SIU Today on April 8

 

There will be no SIU Today on Monday, April 8, as the university community gathers to celebrate the total solar eclipse. Submission deadlines for next week’s editions remain the same.
