Massey has nearly 16 years of experience with the department — first as a procurement officer specialist beginning in December 2007 and from March 2021 to October 2023 as a procurement officer supervisor. Before returning to campus, Massey was a contract compliance specialist with the Illinois Department of Transportation, beginning in November 2023.

Procurement Services is responsible for the issuance of purchase orders, verification of receipts, distribution of P-cards, P-card compliance and the administration of contracts.

Massey is an SIU Carbondale alumnus, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in accounting through the College of Business and Analytics’ online program.

“SIU Carbondale feels like home to me,” Massey said. “I know the campus, the various departments and the people. I look forward to working with the procurement staff, the vice chancellor for administration and finance, Susan Simmers, and the university’s vision and direction. Having the opportunity to come back to SIU as the director of procurement services and lead a procurement team is exciting.”

Susan L. Simmers, vice chancellor for administration and finance, said Massey, the university’s chief procurement officer, is committed to optimizing systems to better support the university’s strategic priorities.

“The feedback indicated that those involved with the search process were impressed with Eric’s experience and his dedication to SIU,” Simmers said. “Please join me in welcoming Eric back to SIU.  I look forward to working with him in his new role.”

Massey’s previous work experience includes general manager with Massey Oil Co. Inc. in Anna and in various capacities including systems engineer and item center manager with NCR Corp. in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, and Ladue, Missouri.
