Provost Faculty Fellow program applications open

Applications will be accepted for tenured SIU Carbondale faculty to participate in the Provost Faculty Fellow program for the fall 2024 semester with possible renewal in spring 2025. The deadline to apply is April 1.

The program provides part-time academic leadership experience to a university faculty member who has an interest in academic administration. Fellows will gain insight into administrative practices and procedures in the provost’s and associate provosts’ offices.

A fellow, who will receive one course release (25% full-time equivalent or equivalent administrative stipend) for each term served, must be a tenured associate or full professor. If the assignment continues in the summer, the fellow will receive one month’s summer salary.

The fellow’s primary responsibility will be in one of the following areas:

Associate Provost Academic Programs (APAP)

  • Student success.
  • Assessment/academic program review.
  • Catalog processes.

Associate Provost Academic Administration (APAA)

  • Faculty onboarding and professional development.
  • Academic leadership onboarding and development.

APAP and/or APAA

  • Updating/modifying internal processes, including development of flowcharts, checklists, timelines, tracking and website posting.

Application procedure

Eligible faculty members should submit a statement of interest relating to one or more of the areas listed above and CV to apaa@siu.edu. The Office of the Provost will seek brief endorsements from the applicant’s school director and/or dean. The course release will be funded through the provost’s office.

The fellow will be appointed by the provost with the recommendation of the associate provosts based on area of interest, relevant experience, demonstrated leadership potential and the university’s existing needs at the time of the selection.
