‘Wedding Band’ to challenge audiences on racism, class and unjust laws 

“Wedding Band,” the provocative and unsparing story of interracial love set against the backdrop of World War I in Charleston, South Carolina, will play out in the intimacy of the Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theater starting Nov. 30. 


History major finds support at SIU for a career in Native American museum work

An Oneida Iroquois, Maggie McMullen, a history major with a minor in international studies from Summerfield, Illinois, is firmly entrenched in Native American culture. She is the winner of SIU’s 2023-2024 Native American Scholarship.


Sesser native using Provost’s Scholarship to prepare for career as an advocate  

As the daughter of a longtime elected official, junior Audrey Gulley was already interested in politics and public service at Sesser-Valier High School. Now, preparing for a career in the legal system, SIU Carbondale and its Provost Scholarship are helping pave Gulley’s way.


Football Salukis are playoff bound

Next Conversation of Understanding is Nov. 28

A Conversation of Understanding on Tuesday, Nov. 28, will look at confronting and counteracting policies and legislation that hinder anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion (ADEI) efforts. National ADEI experts will share their insights, experiences and ideas. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live virtual discussion at noon. The meeting will be available on the SIU System’s YouTube channel.


SIU creation among winners in Lazy Dog Beer Club ‘Battle of the Brews’  

A beer created by the SIU Carbondale Fermentation Sciences Institute is the only collegiate winner among four victors in a “Battle of the Brews,” a competition sponsored by Lazy Dog Beer Club to celebrate its fifth anniversary.

Planning is underway for Salukis in Unity, and organizers are inviting campus departments, units and organizations to submit activities for inclusion in the calendar of events.


Ceramic, print sale is Nov. 29  

Starting to get flustered over what to give for a holiday gift? SIU Carbondale printmaking and ceramic students will be showing their works just in time for the season during a sale on Nov. 29. The public event is from 5 to 8 p.m. in the ceramic studio, Pulliam Industrial Wing, Room 102.


SIU Women’s Club now accepting applications for two scholarships

The SIU Women’s Club is now accepting applications for a pair of scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year: the Dorothy Morris Traditional Student Scholarship and the Joyce Guyon Non-Traditional Scholarship.


No SIU Today on Thursday  

Like the rest of campus, SIU Today will take off Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23. The submission deadline for the Nov. 27 edition is Tuesday, Nov. 21. The last SIU Today for the fall semester is Dec. 14. SIU Today will then resume in January.
