Salukis take over Chicago, beat Northern Illinois

In its third year, the Saluki Takeover Tour in Chicago brought excitement and SIU pride to the Windy City. While celebrating the university’s increase in enrollment, SIU leaders met with alumni, friends, and made several visits to community colleges and high schools. The Chicago Takeover culminated with a Saluki football win over Northern Illinois.


Saluki Family Weekend is Sept. 28-Oct. 1

Television star Josh Peck, an outdoor movie, a craft fair, tailgating and football, athletic events, a brunch and countless other activities are part of Saluki Family Weekend 2023, Sept. 28-Oct. 1.


600+ students visiting campus Wednesday for SIU Day

About 600 students from 18 area high schools will meet faculty and staff to get a closer look at resources and academic programs at SIU Carbondale beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the Student Center.


Changes coming Tuesday to Duo app

As part of the Office of Information Technology’s (OIT) cybersecurity efforts, SIU is making changes to how the university community uses the Duo multifactor authentication app, starting Tuesday, Sept. 12.


Conversation on Supreme Court’s affirmative action ruling is Sept. 19  

A “Conversation of Understanding” next week will look at the recent U.S. Supreme Court affirmative action ruling and its impact on higher education for underserved, racialized ethnic groups. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live, virtual discussion at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 19. 


SIU Song Festival will feature a variety of song styles, genres  

An eclectic mix of song styles and genres will be celebrated as the SIU Song Festival, featuring acclaimed soprano Sarah Tannehill Anderson, kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 13.


Morris Library receives ‘significant’ donation of laptops for student use

A recent donation of nearly 50 laptops to Morris Library by Schneider is helping augment students’ educational opportunities.


SIU sponsoring two job fairs next week

The Career Development Center is sponsoring two events in September to connect students and employers – a Reverse Job Fair and the traditional Job and Internship Fair.


Reminder: SIU Carbondale accepting honorary degree/service award nominations

The university is now accepting nominations for honorary degrees and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2024 commencement ceremonies. The nomination deadline is Oct. 18.


Midwest Winds Quintet to perform on Tuesday

The U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America’s Midwest Winds Quintet will perform from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, in Altgeld Hall. Admission is free and the performance is open to the public. All musicians in the ensemble are stationed at Scott Air Force Base.
