Changes coming Tuesday to Duo app
As part of the Office of Information Technology’s (OIT) cybersecurity efforts, SIU is making changes to how the university community uses the Duo multifactor authentication app, starting Tuesday, Sept. 12.
When accessing various SIU software, services and systems, users are currently prompted to verify who they are by accepting a push notification or entering a unique code received on their smartphone or mobile device. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 12, users will now only be prompted to enter a randomly generated three-digit code provided in the Duo app. Users will no longer have the option to tap the “approve” or “deny” buttons.
The code makes it significantly harder for a cybercriminal to use someone’s credentials and is only a minor change in the way users currently verify their identities.
View OIT’s Duo knowledge base article for additional information, as well as examples of what the change will look like.
