SIU Law alumnus, Illinois public health director Vohra to deliver law school commencement address

Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Sameer Vohra, a 2011 graduate of the SIU School of Law, will deliver the keynote at the law school’s commencement on May 12.


Reimagined SIU Camp Little Giant returns with new opportunities, traditional favorites 

Camp Little Giant, one of the nation’s first camps specifically for people with disabilities, returns to SIU Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center in a new and reimagined form for summer 2023.


Odenkirk event moved to Banterra Center

Because of overwhelming response, the Bob Odenkirk honorary degree presentation and Q&A session on Monday, April 3, will be moved to the Banterra Center. The event is free and open to the public. Seating will be first come, first served. Doors open at 6 p.m. Registration is no longer required to attend this event.

Explore the great outdoors at SIU’s Touch of Nature 2023 summer camps 

Summer 2023 will be full of outdoor adventure and fun for children ages 5-16, thanks to a wide assortment of summer camps at SIU Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center.


SIU community invited to lunch and learn about race language and immigration  

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a lunch and learn presentation at noon on Wednesday, March 29, in the Old Main Room at the Student Center featuring Patriann Smith, associate professor of literacy studies at the University of South Florida. Her presentation is “Rac(e)ing Language and Immigration: Affirming the Lives and Literacies of International Students.”


CTE hosting surround sound listening event to celebrate Pink Floyd

The SIU Carbondale Center for Teaching Excellence is hosting a unique listening opportunity at 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, in Lawson Hall, Room 171, to celebrate the 50th anniversary release Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon.”


SIU Student Distinguished Service Award deadline extended to March 31 

The application deadline for faculty and staff to nominate a deserving student for an SIU Student Distinguished Service Award by the SIU Board of Trustees is 11:59 p.m. Friday, March 31. The award recognizes and honors the efforts and contributions of students in the SIU System “whose acts of service are demonstrative of excellence and exemplary commitment to the support, advancement and achievement of fellow students, their campus, and their community.”


Conversation on ‘elevating employee appreciation’ across SIU campuses is Tuesday

A Conversation of Understanding on Tuesday, March 28, will examine how recognizing excellent employee performance strengthens relationships, boosts workplace morale and improves organizational productivity. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live virtual discussion at noon on the SIU System’s YouTube channel.


Virtual Little Grassy Literary Festival 2023 features readings, discussions 

The 14th annual Little Grassy Literary Festival returns April 3-7 in a virtual format featuring a variety of renowned literary authors.


Students from 30 high schools to compete in SIU’s Math Field Day 

Students from 30 high schools in Illinois and Missouri will be on campus Tuesday, March 28, at the Banterra Center competing in the university’s annual Math Field Day. A maximum of 36 students from each school, nine per grade, may compete.
