 ‘Firm believer’ in community service earns Sturgis Award

Finding a way to be involved to better the region is a key focus for Brad Dillard, director of Plant and Service Operations. Dillard’s list of community service activities that include serving as race director of the iconic River-to-River Relay to working as an auxiliary deputy with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department earned him the university’s 2018 Lindell W. Sturgis Memorial Public Service Award.

Several campus offices relocated to Woody Hall

Several primary business offices on campus have completed relocating into areas within Woody Hall.

Anthropology professor receives NSF grant for research work in Peru

Izumi Shimada, Anthropology, recently received a $213,517 grant from the National Science Foundation to continue research and analysis of the Sicán people who once lived on the north coast of what is now Peru.

Sunset Concert Series 40th birthday season to feature music, giveaways and more

The 40th season of Carbondale’s favorite summer tradition – the Sunset Concerts – kicks off on June 14 and the anniversary celebration includes special giveaways, an additional venue and, of course, great music!

Tour site of previously undiscovered American fort Saturday

A public field day hosted by the SIU Carbondale Department of Anthropology on Saturday will feature the work of the 2018 SIUC Field School in Archaeology class, along with historical re-enactors, demonstrators and presenters.

Free dental clinics available for area children this summer

There are several opportunities this summer for children in the region to receive free preventive dental services through the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Dental Sealant Grant Program.
