Reckoning with racist violence in Illinois

William Freivogel, professor, School of Journalism, participated in a discussion on the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act and the historical and present impact of lynching and racial violence in Illinois. The journalism school’s “The 1857 Project,” published in spring 2020 by the Gateway Journalism Review, included works by SIU students and faculty and offered a historical retrospective on slavery, segregation and other aspects of racism in the St. Louis metro area and Illinois.
