Accomplishments - September, 2023
Jody Paulson, clinical associate professor, School of Art and Design, was recently recognized as the Illinois Art Education Association Higher Education Art Educator of the Year. The organization annually recognizes the top art, design and media educators for their excellence and service and found Paulson’s “professional performance, service and leadership to be exemplary in every regard.”
Jaime Leigh Gray, assistant professor, School of Theater and Dance, is project manager for the exhibition “Border Crossings: Exile and American Modern Dance 1900-1955,” which opened at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in June and runs through March 16, 2024. She is also managing editor of the exhibition’s catalog being released in December.
Cheng-Yao Lin, professor and coordinator of the elementary education program in the School of Education, was selected last month as a Fulbright mentor by the United States Department of State for the 2023-2024 academic year. He will be assisting new Fulbright scholars from Taiwan with advice, support and networking as they come to the United States for a year to serve as scholars at universities and colleges.
“Policing Unrest: On the Front Lines of the Ferguson Protests” by Tammy Rinehart Kochel, professor of criminology and criminal justice and associate dean for research and personnel in the College of Health and Human Sciences, is the 2023 Outstanding Book Award recipient from the American Society of Criminology’s Division of Policing. The book describes the frontline experiences of police officers who worked the 2014 Ferguson, Missouri, protests and includes area residents' experiences.
