SIU hosts Nov. 4 piano recital featuring Romantic period works

Nicholas Phillips, professor of piano at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, presents a guest solo piano recital at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall.

The recital hosted by the SIU Carbondale School of Music is free and open to the public.

Phillips will perform jewels of solo piano repertoire by Romantic period composers, including Klavierstücke, Op. 118 by Johannes Brahms; No. 11 “Harmonies du Soir” from 12 Transcendental Etudes by Franz Liszt, and Barcarolle, Op. 60 by Frédéric Chopin. Phillips will also highlight some rarely heard works by Norwegian composer Agathe Backer Grøndahl.

Phillips will present a masterclass at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov 3, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall, working with SIU piano students. The piano masterclass is free and open to the public.

Both events are supported by SIU’s Fine Arts Activity Fee.
