Sharp Museum’s Fuller exhibition hosts speaker series Friday

SIU Carbondale’s Sharp Museum will host a discussion and closing reception for the Fuller Futures: Art and Artifacts” exhibition starting at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21.

The four-month exhibition was part of the Fuller Futures Festival in April which focused on the vision and legacy of noted futurist, architect and designer R. Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983), who joined SIU in 1959. The free, public event will include a speaker series from 4-5:15 p.m. that looks back at the five-day festival and then ahead to the future.

The presentations are:

  • “Fuller Futures: A Living Legacy,” by Elizabeth Donoghue, SIU Carbondale University Honors Program and president of the Fuller Dome Home Museum.
  • “Acorus: From Livingry to the Lunar Frontier,” by George Jackson, Fuller Dome Home board member.
  • “Bucky and the Magic of Little Egypt,” by Ben Lowder, Fuller Dome Home board member.

A closing reception will follow until 7 p.m. so visitors can view several Fuller-related artifacts and meet with Fuller Dome Home board members. Live music will also be provided by Wild Burgers.
