Road work on Pleasant Hill Road pushed back

The planned road work along a 1.5-mile stretch of Pleasant Hill Road is delayed a few weeks.

When the work begins, motorists who travel along the road may want to find an alternate route or allow for additional travel time. The improvements from Union Hill Road to McLafferty Road are expected to take three months and continue into the fall 2026 semester, according to SIU Carbondale’s Facilities and Energy Management. The contractor will maintain one open lane along Pleasant Hill throughout the construction timeframe via electric traffic control, providing access to SIU Farms entrances.

Improvements will include widening the two existing lanes from 10-foot lane widths with 1-foot shoulders to 11-foot lane widths with new 8-foot shoulders.
