Mandatory cybersecurity training for faculty and staff begins Feb. 16
SIU Carbondale’s annual cybersecurity training will be available starting Monday, Feb. 16. It is required for the following employees:
- SIU Carbondale faculty and staff, including civil service, administrative/professional, extra‑help employees and volunteers.
- Staff members in the SIU President’s Office.
- All SIU System Office staff members.
The deadline to complete the training is Friday, March 13.
Employees with the SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale and Springfield are exempt because they complete a separate cybersecurity course. Graduate assistants and students are also exempt.
The training will be available in D2L, and employees will receive an email notification when the course opens. The course includes six total modules and takes about one hour to complete. Module 5, “Security Essentials,” contains most of the training material and includes a knowledge pretest that may allow participants to test out of some or all segments of that module.
Participants may complete the training at their own pace and may pause between modules, but each module must be completed in a single sitting or progress will not be saved. A certificate is issued when all modules are finished.
The Office of Information Technology reminds the campus community that cybersecurity requires shared responsibility. Understanding the preventative measures outlined in the training helps protect the university and its members from cyber threats.
