Technology Advisory Committee brings user voices forward

SIU Carbondale’s Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) partners with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and the IT Governance Council to provide the campus community with a forum for discussing technology needs, issues and investments. Recently, OIT refreshed the TAC’s mission to emphasize the “constituent voice” and provide a user-focused viewpoint on technology needs, priorities and experiences.

Committee members serve as advocates for their areas, gathering feedback, raising questions, identifying emerging needs and sharing constituent input with technology decision makers. They also communicate OIT initiatives back to their constituencies to increase awareness, address needs for collaboration and build support for new technology efforts.

While the TAC does not make enterprisewide decisions, the committee offers structured recommendations that help inform strategic, tactical and operational technology initiatives. Moreover, the committee evaluates and helps guide efforts to align with the university’s Imagine 2030 strategic plan, evaluating the impact of technology efforts, raising awareness of risk and compliance considerations, promoting effective resource use, and monitoring progress and outcomes.

With this renewed focus, TAC strengthens transparency and collaboration by ensuring user perspectives are afforded meaningful consideration in charting the university’s technology direction. The committee is scheduled to meet three times per year.

Please reach out to the TAC with general questions, to connect with a TAC representative, to attend a meeting or to get items on the agenda.
