CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Music’s Guitar Studio will host its fall ensemble on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

The free, public performance is at 7 p.m. in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall, 980 Faner Drive on the SIU campus.

The concert will feature solo works for classical guitar drawing from the standard repertoire of Spanish, Italian and Latin American composers, said Isaac Lausell, associate professor of music and director of jazz studies.

The first part of the concert will feature solo selections performed by SIU music students Harrison Braddy, Myles Daniels, Tracy Hosman-Kaytor and Annabella Reed.

The second half of the performance will feature the guitar ensemble performing an arrangement of late Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla’s “L’Evasion,” which Lausell said is part of the repertoire of a new tango that Piazzolla had crafted.

The guitar quartet will also play several moments from “Hamsa,” composed by the late French classical guitarist Roland Dyens. Each movement is dedicated to composers that have made significant contributions, Lausell said.

The concert is part of the School of Music’s 10th edition of the International Guitar Festival. Internationally acclaimed Brazilian classical guitarist Marcos Vinicius performed on campus earlier this month.

The festival is sponsored by an SIU Foundation grant and the Southern Illinois Chamber Music Society.
