Head back to class with COLA on Oct. 24
As a part of SIU Carbondale’s Homecoming festivities, the College of Liberal Arts will present “Back to Class With COLA,” addressing a variety of topics, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at Faner Hall in the Door 6 lobby.
The mini classes presented by COLA faculty are open to everyone, with individual tickets at $50 apiece. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 17. All proceeds from the event go toward undergraduate student scholarships in COLA. More information on tickets and sponsorship opportunities is available on the SIU Foundation’s website.
Faculty members who will be presenting and their topics are:
- “What is Race? Histories, Identities, Implications” by Ted Cohen, associate professor, Africana Studies and historical studies.
- “Education Is Life or Death” or “My Quest to See My 60s” by Joshua Daniel, associate professor, rhetoric composition.
- “The Hidden Diversity of Faith in Southern Illinois” by Tobin Grant, professor, political science.
- “Beyond Sound: What Deaf Culture Teaches Us About Connection” by Katie Moore, assistant professor, American Sign Language.
Each instructor will present in each mini class session. The schedule is:
- 5:30 p.m. — Reception, Faner Hall, Door 6 lobby.
- 6:15-7 p.m. — First mini class.
- 7:15-8 p.m. — Second mini class.
