SIU Trumpet Studio to perform Nov. 7 at Hangar 9
The SIU Trumpet Studio, under the direction of Ricky Spears, an assistant professor in the School of Music, will perform Nov. 7 along with the Grammy Award-winning New Orleans-based Dirty Dozen Brass Band at Hangar 9, 513 S. Illinois Ave., Carbondale.
Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door and are available at hangar9.com.
The Trumpet Studio includes more than 20 members, many of whom perform professionally while pursuing their music degrees. Known for their engaging performances, the studio brings excitement and precision to a wide range of repertoire. In spring 2025, two ensembles from the studio advanced to the live rounds of the National Trumpet Competition — marking SIU Carbondale’s first appearance in the contest.
“We couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity to have our students perform at an event featuring this legendary band,” Spears said.
Founded in 1977, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band has taken the traditional foundation of brass band music and incorporated it into a blend of genres, including bebop jazz, funk and R&B/soul.
