Support SIU students affected by breast cancer by buying Saluki Strength apparel
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale is continuing its campaign to raise awareness and fight breast cancer while providing valuable support to students impacted by the disease.
“Saluki Squad” Start Seeing Pink apparel is now available for purchase, in conjunction with Silkworm. Options include long- and short-sleeve T-shirts and sweatshirts. Order online through Sept. 18 with pickup available the week of Oct. 1 in the Student Affairs office, Room 486 of the Student Services Building.
All proceeds of the sales go to the Saluki Strength Breast Cancer Scholarship and Endowment Fund, established to provide scholarships and other assistance to students who have been adversely affected by breast cancer.
“The Start Seeing Pink campaign at SIU not only raises awareness for breast cancer but also provides meaningful opportunities for students through scholarships,” said Tena Bennett, assistant vice chancellor for auxiliary enterprises and student affairs. “These scholarships support students and families directly impacted by breast cancer, ensuring our community’s compassion is felt in classrooms as well as in the fight against cancer.”
Eighteen SIU students have been awarded more than $17,000 since the inception of Start Seeing Pink on campus in 2015. Organizers hope to raise funding to grow the self-sustaining permanent endowment so more scholarships can be offered. Learn about some of the previous scholarship winners online.
